The developer wanted a direct way for the students to access video clips located on a textbook DVD. Preferably as links in the the online course itself.
The Solution
After identifying the direct path and filename to the media on DVD, we were able to hard-code a Flash button to call up those files once a student has loaded the DVD in their computer drive.
NOTE: the link below requires the Operations Management DVD present in your DVD drive. Unless you have the specific disc, you will not be able to use the button below.
Online Video
If you have a broadband Internet connection, click here to view the "Overview - Hillerich & Bradsby (Louisville Slugger)" online video.
DVD Video
Insert your Operations Management DVD into your computer's DVD drive, and click the button below. NOTE: if your DVD Drive is identified by a letter other than "D," please enter the correct drive letter in the box next to the button.
NOTE: If you have the text book DVD, you can view the video clips from the DVD by selecting "Chapter 1", then "Video Clips." If you do not have the DVD and cannot view these from the web due to a dial-up connection, please contact the Empire State College Helpdesk (onlinehelp@esc.edu) or 800 847-3000 ext. 420 and request a copy of these materials on CD. Ask for the "Operations Management CD."
What is Needed to Create a CD/DVD Link?
You will need to identify which media files (e.g. audio, Adobe PDF, Video) that you want to link to on the CD/DVD.
You will need to provide CLT with the original CD/DVD in order for us to locate the direct paths to your selected.
NOTE: this technique only works for media in common PC formats. This technique does not work on videos that are native to the DVD format (those videos/movies that are designed to play on your television's DVD player).
