Student Telecommunications Fee to Increase $25 Effective with the January 2014 Term

The student telecommunications fee will increase $25 per term, effective with the January 2014 term. The fee increase, which is in part the continuation of a multi-year plan, comes after careful consideration by the Student Affairs Committee, the Office of Administration and the Office of Integrated Technologies, in consultation with a representative number of students and approval by the State University of New York.

The telecommunications fee exclusively supports the use of technology by and for students across the college and will increase to reflect the higher level of technology service now being provided.

In order to keep the total cost of attendance as low as possible, the telecommunications fee has been kept at an amount lower than actual costs. Last year, college spending on student-related technology was $2 million more than the associated fees collected. This increase to $150 per term will help reduce that gap, while remaining among the lowest for all SUNY campuses.

The average student telecommunications fee at most SUNY campuses for 2012 was $185 per term.

The telecommunications fee supports the student online learning management system, hardware and software in the student computer labs at each of the college’s regional learning centers, help desks and Internet services offered to students. By established college policy, the telecommunications fee is waived for veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. military. Return to navigation links
