ADDICTION AND DEPENDENCY: INTRODUCTION (CHS-252184)
Course Description: This course will focus on understanding of addictive disorders and the impact of addiction on the individual and the various social systems with which the person interacts. Topics will include categories of psychoactive substances and how these affect behavior, mood, and cognition. How addiction affects the individual, family, and community. The study will also examine the various models of addiction and the impact of addiction on specific populations. Substance use related addictions, gambling disorder, and process addictions will be examined. This was previously an upper level course titled, Addiction and Dependency in Spring 2017 and previously as Chemical Addictions: Theories and Practice, 4 credits. This course was revised for May 2017 and is now a lower level course and retains the foundation content from the earlier course. If you previously completed either course as CHS-253184, you cannot register for this course. This online course is offered through Online Learning.
