CMLAI Deep Learning Series: Deconstructing Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954), Continued: “The True Start of Head Start”
|Event Date(s):|| 10/13/2021
|Event Time(s):|| 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
|Event Description:|| This is an internal event for faculty and staff. Please contact Karen LaBarge regarding attendance.
In May 2021, we began a “deep learning series” with a collegewide discussion of the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. Our goal is to learn more about how that monumental decision has affected not only our schools but many other domains of our lives.
Join us for the second part of this series, “The True Start of Head Start.” The focus of this one-hour session will be the birth, history, and significance of the Head Start program. What is Head Start? Why was it created in 1965? How is it linked to the Brown decision? How effective has it been? And, importantly, how does the spirit and substance of Head Start have relevance to us right now and to our work with our students? How might our understanding of Head Start and the ripples beyond it contribute to our efforts to create a more inclusive pedagogy today — regardless of our academic areas, regardless of our role at SUNY Empire?
