Setting up the BoxPlot Macro

Math Tutorials Home > Boxplots in Excel

To create a boxplot you select the datasets (ranges) containing the data you want to plot, set some options, and click the Create Plot button. A new worksheet is added to the workbook for each boxplot you create.

BoxPlot Setup dialog box

You can copy the data you want to plot to the BoxPlot workbook, or you can plot data in any other open workbook. The boxplot is always created in the workbook that contains the data.

There a couple points you should keep in mind.
  • If you select a range of data before selecting the Boxplot menu option the selected range is automatically transfered to the dialog for you. This is a shortcut for those times when you want to quickly plot a single data set.
  • If you want to label the dataset(s) put the label(s) in the first cell of the range and mark the First Row Contains Labels checkbox.
  • You cannot plot more then five data sets in a single plot.
