"Ecolutions:" Finding Creative Solutions to Environmental Problems

All of us are familiar with environmental problems. Daily headlines and news reports relate the latest data on global climate change, endangered species, air and water contamination, overuse of pesticides, desertification, rainforest destruction, and environmental injustice. Cumulatively such information can be overwhelming, and it may seem that solutions are beyond our reach. But there are such solutions, and they begin with an understanding that our entire natural world is a connected system and with a comprehension of how we as humans fit into the system. From that starting point, we can all contribute to solutions implemented individually, through grassroots community groups, more formal institutions, religious groups, and public officials and agencies. This residency presents studies on subjects that help to build learners’ capacity to develop their own creative environmental solutions. In addition to the courses offered, the plenary sessions will also focus on “ecolutions,” at both the individual and social levels. We intend the whole experience to lead to both positive feelings and positive action by us all.
