FINANCIAL INFORMATION FOR UNDERGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: 2010-2011 Academic Year

The Foreign Student Financial Statement is of extreme importance in considering your application and is required prior to any review of your application. U.S. Government regulation require that any prospective student must possess minimum financial resources in order to be admitted to a U.S. college or university.

In Part II of the Foreign Student Financial Statement you must include the U.S. dollar amounts by year for the time you and your dependents stay in the U.S. Each source of funds indicated must be verified by documentation and signatures as indicated in the Required Verification column.) The required documentation is more fully explained on the reverse for the FSA-4 form.) Forms without the required documentation and signatures will not be accepted.

Minimum Estimated Expenses for 1 year of full-time Undergraduate Study:
Costs represent an estimate of two 15-week terms in one year. If the student elects to study a third term, they must be prepared to pay the additional tuition and fees for that term. All dollar amounts are in U.S. dollars.

Tution and fees*: $14,000 plus fees
Books, supplies**, and transportation: $ 3,000

Total: $17,000

Those cost estimates are considered the minimum amounts necessary. They are subject to change and any changes are likely to be increases. Empire State College – SUNY cannot take responsibility for any changes in the indicated figures.

Enrollment Requirements and Visa Status
Regulations of the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) allow border commuter studets to attend college part-time on a full-time basis. Persons on A, E, G, I, K and L visas may enroll either part-time or full-time as long as their study does not interfere with the purposes for which their visas were granted. Those on J-1, B-1 or B-2 visitor visas may enroll as a non-matriculated student for several credits, but may not matriculate without changing to F-1 (student) status. This also includes F-2 students.

Insurance
The State University of New York requires that any student who has entered the United States for study or research have health insurance. Effective August 15, 1986, each international student must pay a mandatory fee for health insurance. Please check the fee for the current year with the International Student Liaison. Persons on any other kind of visa may participate in the program but participation is not required.

Financial Aid
International students are expected to finance their cost of attending school in the United States. New York State and federal financial aid is not available to international students.
