AMERICA'S FOUNDING IDEAS (SOC-263454)
Course Description: The founding of The United States of America is one of the defining events of world history, and the political ideas of the founding generation continue to be invoked all manner of political debate. But, questions about the founding generation remain: What did Thomas Jefferson and James Madison really think about politics? How did the American founding generation understand terms like "liberty", "democracy", and "freedom"? This course is designed to separate fact from fiction by introducing students to the intellectual, economic, and social context of the American founding. This course fully meets the General Education requirement in American History. This online course is offered through the Center for Distance Learning.
