Degree Programs
Some schools expect students to declare a major and take all the same courses in a set sequence. At Empire State College, you design an individualized bachelor’s degree that gives you the power to pursue different interest areas and shape the substance of your education.

Your degree, the specialized concentration and the individual courses you take are all tailored to your needs and aligned with your career goals. We offer you flexible ways to take the courses you need:

Guided Independent Study
Work one-to-one with a faculty member to create a course and study a specific topic. Meet in-person, connect online or speak via telephone- together you and your faculty member develop the schedule and study plan.

Study Groups:
Be part of a small group what meets periodically for in-person discussions to support your independent learning.

Residencies:
Spend a weekend studying along side your fellow students from across the state. Both program specific and topic/theme-based residencies are available each term.

Online:
Take one course or a complete degree program. You’ll interact with faculty and classmates from the location of your choice all the time.
