"Carnival", a painting by Raśl Manzano

Carnaval by Raśl Manzano, 2006

"I am a digital artist working with sound, video, still images and painting, interested in the phenomenological aspects of aural and visual time-based media. Throughout my experiences at the Metropolitan Center, working in close communication with my mentor, I found the means and support that I needed to advance my work and fulfill my goals as a media artist.”

– Richard Garet, student

VISUAL ARTS IN NEW YORK CITY
The visual arts studies range from studio art – painting, sculpture, drawing and new media – to art history and curatorial studies. There is a drawing studio, a digital printmaking studio, and other studio work is done independently or in community workshops.

Introductory studies are designed to welcome students new to the concentration or to refresh skills in drawing, art history and art theory.

You’ll gain curatorial experience through hands-on exhibition production or internships at museums or alternative art spaces. Our students work with a primary mentor in the visual arts, and may have the opportunity to study with working artists or to take an outside studio class or workshop.
