The Global Spirit of Philadelphia: Economic Security, Political Freedom, and Labor Rights in the 21st Century
|Event Date(s):|| 05/10/2014
|Event Time(s):|| 9:00 a.m.
|Event Description:|| This event highlights the role of the International Labour Organization (ILO) 70 years after the drafting of its post-World War II Constitution, which included the Declaration of Philadelphia. The declaration reaffirmed the relevance of the ILO's "aims and purposes" to the postwar world; insisting on the right of working men and women around the world to economic security and political freedom, and committed the ILO to programs that would achieve, among other ends, "full employment and the raising of standards of living" for all people everywhere, along with the right to freedom of expression and of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
