Event Time(s): | 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. |
Event Description: | The standard narrative of the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. typically focuses on top down action: The Emancipation Proclamation. But what is not emphasized, or is even left out, are the ways that enslaved people secured their own freedom. Come learn about the important role Contraband Camps played in African Americans freeing themselves from the bonds of slavery.
