How to Request a Peer Tutor

Please follow the steps below to request a peer tutor. Remember, the more information you provide, the easier it will be for us to try to find a peer tutor. Additionally, students should also discuss their course issues or difficulties with their instructor to ensure peer tutoring will be a beneficial resource. Some course issues may be resolved after a quick conversation with the course instructor. You can find more information about the Peer Tutor Program in the Tutee FAQs.
To request a peer tutor, please follow the steps below:
- Review the following documents: Role of a Tutor, Role of a Tutee, Tutee FAQ's, and General FAQs.
- Complete the Tutor Request Form and e-mail the completed form to: CDLAcademic.Support@esc.edu or mail to Empire State College, Office of Academic Support, 113 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Attn: Theresa Vamvalis.
Upon receipt of your application, CDL's Office of Academic Support will:
- notify you that the application has been received and clarify any information which is unclear on the application.
- notify you when a peer tutor has been assigned and provide the peer tutor's contact information, OR notify you that a peer tutor was not found and the search will continue.
- NOTE: The time of year and tutor availability may make finding a peer tutor difficult for some subject areas. CDL's Office of Academic Support will make every attempt to find a peer tutor in a timely manner.
Once a peer tutor is assigned, CDL's Office of Academic Support will require:
- notification that contact has been made with the peer tutor and acknowledgement that a tutoring schedule has been developed.
- all tutoring sessions take place by phone, e-mail, and other electronic communication methods. Tutoring sessions can take place at one of the Empire State College's regional locations if coordinated through CDL's Office of Academic Support.
- the peer tutor to send the tutee a Tutee Progress Report after each tutoring session, which indicates the time you met and the content discussed. All students receiving tutoring must acknowledge these sessions by e-mailing the Tutee Progress Report to CDLAcademic.Support@esc.edu or by mailing the form to Empire State College, Office of Academic Support, 113 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
