EXPLORING THE PROFESSIONS: CHILD CARE ADVANCED (EDU-233422)

Center for Distance Learning Home > Distance Learning Catalog > Educational Studies >

Course Description:

The advanced version of Child Care Overview is intended for upper division students who plan to complete degree programs in Child Care Administration and/or complete studies toward the New York State Children’s Programs Credential. This two credit advanced study invites future leaders in the child care profession to examine in depth the history of child care as a profession, the history of child care credentialing, child care ethics, and an overview of competencies needed for excellence as a child care professional. Students will have an opportunity to observe and critique child care settings as well as interview administrators, teachers, children, and parents about their experiences in child care. To assist them in further classes in the child care administration sequence, students will prepare a resource portfolio as a final project.

Prerequisites: Students should have had formal courses in child development, early childhood education or related fields or extensive experience as child care providers.

Note: This course is offered in both an introductory and advanced form. Only one version of the course can be taken as a part of a degree plan. The assignments in the introductory course require a descriptive understanding of the child care field while the assignments in the advanced course require the student to analyze, synthesize, and apply the concepts in child care settings. Those with experience in child care should probably take the advanced version of the course.

Important Note: This course was renamed effective the September 2006 term and was formerly offered as Child Care Overview: Advanced, 254322. Students who have successfully completed 254322 should not enroll in this course.

This online course is offered through the Center for Distance Learning.
