Course Description:


This course will be offered in the 2012 - 2013 academic year

This course is designed to help students and practitioners gather, analyze and interpret data assessing the development of children in the context of home, school, and community environments. Students will become familiar with both formal and informal observation instruments used in the assessment of children from birth through middle childhood and develop methods for conducting formative and summative evaluations for children within their environments. Recommendations for assessment are placed in the context of historical, social, political, educational, legal and ethical trends and are grounded in sound conceptual and scientific bases. Students will learn skills that are beneficial in their work with children and/or families and discuss methods of inquiry that are relevant to the field.
