Course Description:


Study the law of libel and slander and the privacy rights of individuals as they concern journalists and the media; legal issues flowing from the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and of the press; the legal relationship between the media -- particularly the broadcast and other electronic media -- and the courts and other bodies of government; the effects of media coverage on our perceptions of crime and the legal system.

Note: this course was formerly known as Communication Law and Ethics. Students who have successfully completed 123504, Communication Law and Ethics, should not enroll in this course.

This online course is offered through the Center for Distance Learning.
